Positive Material Identification
I was recently approached to produce a website for a client specialising in Positive Material Identification. I had absolutely no idea what PMI was but agreed to meet up with him to discuss his requirements and to learn exactly what he was doing.
I learnt that PMI is a form of Non Destructive Testing which is used in oil and gas exploration, construction, petroleum and petrochemical facilities, where the emphasis is on reliability, safety and accident prevention.
Wikipedia defines NDT as ” a wide group of analysis techniques used in science and industry to evaluate the properties of a material, component or system without causing damage.[1] Because NDT does not permanently alter the article being inspected, it is a highly-valuable technique that can save both money and time in product evaluation, troubleshooting, and research. Common NDT methods include ultrasonic, magnetic-particle, liquid penetrant, radiographic, and eddy-current testing.[1] NDT is a commonly-used tool in forensic engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, systems engineering, aeronautical engineering, medicine, and art”
