Following a humiliating 4 defeats in a row (our worst losing run in over 22 years) Liverpool had to face Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday. I was not confident!
As it happened I was flying back to Liverpool on Saturday morning to visit family for the weekend. I was sitting next to two French guys on the flight and it turned out that they were in a party of 6 going to the game and they had 7 tickets – well by the time I was clearing passport control I had a ticket for the match!
Huge sellout crowd as expected but you could sense that the Liverpool fans were not as confident as usual even if they were putting brave faces on it, given the controversy about the beachball the previous week I was not surprised to see this guy outside the ground before the game

And the Liverpool fans in the Kop were not going to be left out either

The first half was rubbish by both sides and at half time it was 0-0, however a bit of magic by Torres gave Liverpool the lead in the second half and after a nerve racking last 10 minutes Ngog gave secured the win with a second in the last few minutes.
As you can probably see from Pepe Reina’s position on the pitch, he was fairly happy with the goal!

Massive celebrations afterwards as you can imagine
Final Score
Always great to beat the Mancs! Unfortunately back to the same dismal performance a week later losing 3 – 1 away to Fulham.

On Tuesday we had the first outing of the Monaco branch of the Liverpool Supporters Club.
Seven of us had obtained tickets through the Club for the Fiorentina V Liverpool Champions League game in Florence. We left Monaco at midday and arrived in Florence at around 4-30.

We picked up the tickets at the team hotel and headed into town for some sightseeing.

By then we were very thirsty and managed to find a café right in one of the main squares that seemed very happy to let us in. When we got the bill half an hour and three beers later we found out why! € 8.50 for half a lager, we thought it was bad in Monaco!
Most Expensive Beers in Florence?
Off to the ground where we had a great welcome from the Fiorentina fans and staff with free pasta and water outside the ground and banners inside.

Unfortunately Liverpool played like schoolboys in the first half and gave away 2 goals to go in 2-0 down at half time. They were better (but not great) in the second half but failed to put the ball in the back in the net and ended the game losing 2-0.
We bumped into the Paris supporters as we were leaving the game as they were taking some photos.

Not the greatest result for our first away trip but everyone enjoyed the day out and showed interest in going to the game in Lyon at the beginning of December.

Back in June I posted about Walter Wolkowicz’s new venture supplying Marine Antiques and Furniture from his shop La Vieille Mer in Fontvieille. I am happy to say that as a result of the success of this site Walter’s brother Daniel asked me to create a site for his shop.

I am astonished by the £600 fine that has been given to footballer David Bentley after he admitted drinking and driving.
In 1987 I was fined £200 for speeding at 100mph on the motorway, I did not have an accident and had not been drinking.
At the time I was 26 years old and earning £17,000 per annum and the magistrate said that if it had not been for a reference letter from my employer saying I required the car for work I would also have received a ban.
How then 22 years later can a 24 year old footballer earning more in a week than I was earning in a year having crashed his car after drinking and driving be given a fine which is propably less than one hours pay.
I notice he admitted drinking and driving – little difficult to deny when his Porsche was wrapped around a lamppost. He apparantly parked his car at the train station and was going to get a taxi home, however he decided later that he did not want to leave the car (when pissed remember) so drove ( into a lamppost).
Apparantly “adverse press coverage of the incident had been distressing for him and his family” – So? What about the distress he could have caused if he had hit a pedestrian instead of a lamppost.
By the way how do you manage to hit a lamppost after drinking four pints and two spirit measures – just a thought!
Al in all bloody ridiculous, I know he has also been fined by his club and supposedly lost a sponsorship deal but a publican would lose his job and career for a similar offence.
We have finally got the Monaco Branch of the Liverpool Football Club Supporters Club up and running and as there was a delegation from LFC in Monte Carlo today from the Champions League draw we arranged to meet up with them and were able to get some photos taken with the great Kenny Dalglish.
Any one interested in joining the Monaco Branch of LFC supporters should drop me an email on damian@rivieraads.com
